It has been isolated from the rhizomes of Polygonum multiflorum and possesses anti-inflammatory properties. 5-Methoxy-4-chromanone has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, as well as induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. This compound also inhibits inflammatory cytokines by modulating NF-κB activation.
