• Beschreibung: 2-Mercaptobenzoic acid is a low potency, but pharmacologically active, compound that has been shown to have antioxidative properties in the mouse tumor model. It has also been shown to cause cancer cell death by reducing the stability of disulfide bonds on proteins and inhibiting the growth of carcinoma cells. 2-Mercaptobenzoic acid is used to treat metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia, and may also be used to treat cancer. 2-Mercaptobenzoic acid is found in human urine at levels of 1.5-3.3μg/mL.2-Mercaptobenzoic acid was first synthesized in 1891 by the German chemist Heinrich Caro (1850-1924).
