Beschreibung

Mesalazine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Mesalazine was shown to inhibit 5-asa and to reduce disease activity in patients with ulcerative colitis. The efficacy of mesalazine was evaluated in three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. In these studies, mesalazine was found to be more effective than placebo for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Mesalazine also has inhibitory properties against ulcerative colitis. This drug binds to the mucosal layer of the gastrointestinal tract and inhibits the inflammatory response by blocking leukotrienes and prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation. Mesalazine is used as a combination therapy with other drugs when treating ulcerative colitis.
