• Beschreibung: 4-Methoxy 17β-estradiol is a synthetic estrogen that is used as a pharmaceutical drug in the treatment of menopausal symptoms and to prevent osteoporosis. It can be taken orally or administered by injection. 4-Methoxy 17β-estradiol has been found to have interactive effects with other drugs, such as fatty acids and catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT). It also has an effect on body mass index in vivo, which can lead to cancerous cell proliferation. The matrix effect of 4-methoxy 17β-estradiol on tissues depends on the hydrogen bonds it forms with amino acids in the protein matrix. The hydrogen bonds are different for each tissue type and this may contribute to the differences in carcinogenic potential between tissues. This drug is not active against MCF-7 human breast cancer cells, but does inhibit growth of MDA MB 231 human breast cancer cells.
