1-Methoxy-2,3,5-trimethylbenzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that can be synthesized from benzene and methoxylamine. It has been shown to have a number of biological effects, including upregulation of genes related to fat cell metabolism and the respiratory control system in fat cells and lung fibroblasts. 1-Methoxy-2,3,5-trimethylbenzene is also found to be an electrophile that reacts with chloride ions by forming a chloride ion radical. This reaction leads to the formation of a hydroxyl group and a bond cleavage product.
