The reaction mechanism involves the formation of an acylium ion intermediate, which reacts with a nucleophile to form the final product. 2-Methoxynaphthalene has been used as a food additive in certain ice cream products. This compound is also used as a zeolite catalyst for the production of ethylene oxide and ethylene glycols. In addition, it has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of hydrochloric acid and hydrogen bonds.2-Methoxynaphthalene dissolves readily in strong acids such as hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride. The solubility increases with temperature and decreases with increasing pressure
