4-(Methylamino)-3-nitrobenzoic acid is a synthetic, reactive intermediate that can be converted to dabigatran etexilate, an anticoagulant drug for the prevention of stroke. It has been shown to have anti-cancer activity in vitro and in vivo. 4-(Methylamino)-3-nitrobenzoic acid is synthesized from 4-phenyl-1H-imidazole and 3-nitrobenzoyl chloride. The synthesis proceeds through a series of reactions including hydrogenation reduction, functional theory, and crystallography techniques.
