• Beschreibung: (S)-1-Methylnicotinium iodide is a methylated compound that acts as a pressor agent. It is also used in the treatment of anesthetized patients and those with pyridine poisoning. The molecule is monomethyl, which gives it a high affinity for the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in the brain. This leads to increased blood pressure and heart rate, which are due to the activation of alpha-adrenergic receptors and beta-adrenergic receptors respectively. (S)-1-Methylnicotinium iodide has been shown to have depressor effects on the central nervous system, although this effect may be limited by its rapid metabolism by demethylation into (R)-1-methylnicotinium iodide.
