Beschreibung

2-Methylquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide is a synthetic compound that is an analogue of the natural product quinoxaline. It has been shown to be effective against intestinal bacterial strains and tumour cell lines in vitro. 2-Methylquinoxaline 1,4-doxide has also been shown to have minimal inhibitory concentration against brain tumor cells.
2-Methylquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide is synthesised from potassium dichromate and methyl 2-methylquinoxalinato copper(II). This reaction requires stabilisers such as sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate. The functional theory states that the cytotoxic effect of 2-Methylquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide on cancer cells may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and cell growth by binding to the copper ion in the active site of topoisomerase II.
