(R)-2-Methyl proline is a synthetic compound that is used as a membrane permeabilize. It binds to the head group region of phospholipids in cell membranes and causes the formation of transmembrane pores, leading to cell death. (R)-2-Methyl proline has been shown to be active against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes and Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
