Beschreibung

1-Methylthio-2-propanone is an organic compound that has been used as a replacement for chloroacetone. It can be synthesized by the reaction of nitroethane with methanethiol in the presence of acid. The substitution of methyl groups on the nitro group leads to dinitroso compounds, which have substituent effects that are different from those of chloroacetones. 1-Methylthio-2-propanone can be used as a lachrymator or tear gas. The structure of this compound is related to anilines and other substituted phenols, which may explain its nucleophilic properties.
