2-Methylheptanoic acid is a non-proteinogenic amino acid that is synthesized by an asymmetric synthesis. It has been reported to have synergistic effect when used in combination with other drugs or pharmaceutical preparations. 2-Methylheptanoic acid is metabolized in the liver and excreted as a glucuronide conjugate. The structural analysis of this compound was performed on amide, isovaleric acid, uptake, amines, and urine samples. In addition, hydrogen bond interactions were observed with 2-methylheptanoic acid and inhibitory levels were determined for its isomeric mixture. 2-Methylheptanoic acid has been reported to have inhibitory effects against Staphylococcus aureus isolates.
