Metsulfuron methyl is a herbicide that inhibits protein synthesis in plants. It has been shown to be effective against herbicide-resistant plants and can be used for the control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. Metsulfuron methyl is also used for the preparation of plant tissue samples for analysis by immunohistochemistry.
