2-Methylquinolin-6-amine is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect the presence of hydrochloric acid in solution. It has been shown to have a high stability in both acidic and basic conditions, and is not degraded by other common solvents or reagents. 2-Methylquinolin-6-amine has a high quantum yield, with fluorescence intensity increasing linearly with energy input up to 3.2 eV (400 nm). This compound has been used as a kinetic energy probe for the detection of hydroxyl groups and hydrogen bonds. 2-Methylquinolin-6-amine is also used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of growth factors, such as homologous proteins, in living cells and tissues.
