11-Maleimidoundecanoic acid is a molecule that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer. This drug was found to inhibit tumor growth and improve survival rates in mice with liver cancer. 11-Maleimidoundecanoic acid can also be used as an adjuvant therapy for multiple myeloma, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. The mechanism of action is unknown, but it may work by binding to a toll-like receptor on macrophages or other cells in the immune system. It also appears to suppress reactive oxygen species and reduce inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory cytokine production. 11-Maleimidoundecanoic acid has been shown to have biological properties such as being able to induce new root formation in plants grown in acidic environments and having diastolic blood pressure lowering effects in mice. This drug is not very soluble in water and should be dissolved before adding it to wastewater treatment operations.
