2-Mercapto-5-methylpyridine (2MMP) is a dinuclear molecule that can be synthesized from chloroform and acetonitrile. The molecule has two anionic sites, which allows it to act as a strong Lewis acid. 2MMP was used in the synthesis of tetranuclear complexes with different metal ions. It is also used as a reagent for the preparation of other organic compounds by refluxing in chloroform solution.
