Morpholine-3-carboxylic acid (MCA) is a chromatographic and acidic compound that is used as an antibacterial agent. It has been shown to exhibit antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumonia. MCA also has the ability to inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis. The synthesis of MCA can be achieved through a number of steps starting with the reaction between azides and carbamic acid followed by acid hydrolysis. This synthetic process leads to an enantiopure product with a high degree of purity.
