MTIC inhibits the conversion of farnesyl pyrophosphate to geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate. This inhibition prevents the formation of geranylgeranylated proteins in cells and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis in some types of cancer cells.
