Methyl tridecafluoroheptanoate (MT-HF7) is a fluorinated fatty acid that is activated by sodium. It has been shown to induce cancer in CD-1 mice. MT-HF7 is reactive with chlorine and attacks the hydroxyl group, causing it to break down into a functional group. This functional group can then react with other molecules, such as perfluorinated compounds or other reactive functional groups such as carbonyls, to form new products. These reactions are called photocatalytic activity and can be used for applications such as water purification or degradation of hazardous substances.
