Beschreibung

(S)-Methyl-2-hydroxybutanoate is a synthetic chemical that is used in the industrial process of esterification. It is a hydroxylation product of acid methyl ester and has been shown to have an acid methyl ester as an intermediate during its synthesis. (S)-Methyl-2-hydroxybutanoate can be synthesized by reacting acetone and methanol with sulfuric acid in the presence of pyridine. The technique used for this reaction involves heating the reaction mixture to reflux conditions for 2 hours and then allowing it to cool to room temperature. The yield rate of this chemical is approximately 97%.
