Cytochrome P450 reductase catalyzes the conversion of L-carnitine to acetyl coenzyme A, which is used for fatty acid synthesis. 4-Methoxy-6-tert-butylphenol also inhibits transcriptional regulation and glucuronide conjugation, both of which are necessary for bacterial metabolism.
