It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and polar solvents. 1-Methyl-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazole can be synthesized by the reaction of butyllithium, chloroform, and amide in a refluxing solvent. This compound can also be obtained from pyrazole by debromination with chlorine gas and catalytic hydrogenation of the resulting chloride.
