Beschreibung

5-Nitrobenzofuran-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is a 5-HT1A receptor agonist that is structurally modified from the original compound. It has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis and has high affinity for serotonin reuptake, as well as being a topoisomerase and gyrase inhibitor. This drug's efficacy in treating tuberculosis may be due to its ability to bind to the 5-HT1A receptor, which regulates the production of proinflammatory cytokines. The binding of 5-nitrobenzofuran-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester to receptors on nerve cells leads to an increase in serotonin levels, which are then taken back into the neuron through reuptake. This mechanism decreases the activity of these neurons and can lead to depressive symptoms.
