Beschreibung

Noscapine is a natural product that can be obtained from opium poppies. The drug is used as an antitussive and analgesic, and has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines in animal models. Noscapine is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract but is metabolized into morphine and noscapinone in the liver, which are then excreted through urine or bile. Noscapine can be detected in urine after oral administration by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, with a concentration-time curve that resembles what would be observed for morphine. Noscapine can also be detected in blood plasma by chemiluminescence using synchronous fluorescence. This compound binds to opioid receptors on cells, blocking pain signals from reaching the brain. It has been shown to reduce bowel disease symptoms in mice when given orally or intraperitoneally (IP).
