- 2-Nitropyridine-3-carboxylic acid
2-Nitronicotinic acid is an aromatic nitro compound that is structurally related to nicotine. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease, cancer, and inflammatory diseases. 2-Nitronicotinic acid has a hydroxyl group that can react with fluorine from other compounds to form a reactive intermediate, which then reacts with another molecule of 2-nitronicotinic acid to form a diazonium ion. This highly reactive intermediate can cause DNA damage by the formation of covalent bonds with nucleophilic groups on the DNA strand. The resulting DNA damage leads to cell death.
2-Nitronicotinic acid also stimulates cerebellar granule cells and enhances neuronal growth factor levels in the brain through activation of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC). The sGC is an enzyme that regulates cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels and plays a role in synaptic plasticity and long-term
