Naphthalen-2-yl 2-aminobenzoate is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in alcohol and ether, but not in water. It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds. The compound can be decarboxylated to form naphthalene-1,5-dicarboxylic acid and can also be decarbonylated to form salicylic acid. Naphthalen-2-yl 2-aminobenzoate has been shown to decarbonylate with the use of coupling agents such as dibenzoyl peroxide or benzoyl peroxide.
