Magnesium 3-oxopropanoate is a white powder that is soluble in ethanol and acetone. It has a viscosity of 2.5 cps at 20 °C and is used as a coating material for paper, textiles, and metal products. This product can be recycled by adding it to the reaction solution after using it in the production of coatings or other materials. Magnesium 3-oxopropanoate reacts with malonic acid to produce magnesium malonate, which can be hydrolyzed by lipase to yield magnesium lactate. In addition, this compound is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of carbapenems. The magnesium salt can also be used as a catalyst for esterification reactions in organic solvent systems.br>
