Beschreibung

3-Nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine is a hydroxylated derivative of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine. It has been shown to be an antileishmanial agent in vivo. 3-Nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Leishmania infantum and Trichomonas vaginalis in vitro. 3-Nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine inhibits the enzyme hepg2 which converts arachidonic acid into prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) by competitive inhibition. This drug may also have a role in treating bacterial infections as it exhibits potent antibiotic activity against several species including Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis.
