Nitrourea is an experimental drug for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It inhibits epidermal growth factor (EGF) and reduces inflammation by binding to EGFR in the intestine. Nitrourea also binds to EGFR in the skin and has been shown to be effective against experimental models of bowel disease. The molecular docking analysis of nitrourea has revealed that it competes with EGF for binding to EGFR, thereby inhibiting its signaling pathway. Nitrourea can also inhibit the production of inflammatory molecules such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. In addition, nitrourea reacts with acid in the stomach, which leads to its activation and inhibits phosphorous pentoxide.
