Nicotinamide has been shown to inhibit glutamate-induced blood pressure elevation and the production of soluble guanylate cyclase, which leads to decreased levels of cGMP. Nicotinamide also inhibits the activity of chemical substances (e.g., hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid), which are involved in the formation of nitric oxide. This drug has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of t47d cells in culture and can be used as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes.
