Beschreibung

Nothofagin is a bioactive phenolic compound that has been found to have clinical relevance in the treatment of prostate cancer. The enzyme activities of aspalathin, which can be converted into nothofagin, have been shown to inhibit prostate cancer cells. In addition, nothofagin has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of sodium-dependent glucose transporter 1 (SGLT1) and the activity of liver cells. The protocatechuic acid in honeybush tea can be converted into nothofagin by hydrolysis with glycosidases. Nothofagin also inhibits basophilic leukemia by inhibiting DNA synthesis. It is believed that this inhibition may be due to its hydroxyl group and glycosidic bond.
