It is also an antiplatelet agent, which inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptors on the surface of the platelets and preventing ADP from binding to these receptors. Naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid hydrate is also used in pharmaceutical formulations such as tablets, capsules, and ointments. It has been shown to be pharmacologically equivalent to 1-naphthalenesulfonic acid, and is soluble in acidic solutions.
