Beschreibung

(-)-Nicotine is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist that is found in the nightshade plants, tobacco, and other members of the family Solanaceae. (-)-Nicotine is used as a pharmacological agent to treat congestive heart failure and has also been shown to have glycol ethers. The two-way crossover study showed that (-)-nicotine had no significant effect on locomotor activity in rats but did increase the rate of reaction time. The mechanism of action of (-)-nicotine is not fully understood, but it appears to act as an inhibitor of calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and may also inhibit enzymes such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. (-)-Nicotine has been shown to be effective against many types of cancer cells in vitro and has also been studied for its effects on disease activity in vivo.
