Beschreibung

Nicotinic anilide is a molecule that inhibits the growth of parasites, such as Schistosoma. It has a hydrochloric acid-sensitive aniline moiety and a fatty acid side chain. Nicotinic anilide has been shown to be effective against schistosomiasis in animal studies and could be used as a diagnostic agent. The compound is not active against other parasites, such as Plasmodium or Trypanosoma. Furthermore, nicotinic anilide has been shown to have no effect on T cells and B cells in mice, indicating that it may not have any immunological effects. The mechanism of Nicotinic anilide's inhibitory effect on schistosomiasis is unknown but may involve irreversible oxidation of the parasite's lipid membranes, which leads to its death by chronic exposure.
