• Beschreibung: Nimbinic acid is a drug of the nimbin group that has been shown to have cardiovascular effects. Nimbinic acid is biogenetically an oxidation product of nimbin, which is found in the plant Psychotria viridis and other plants. Nimbinic acid inhibits the enzyme dehydrogenase, which is involved in the synthesis of catecholamines, leading to cardiac hypertrophy and oxidative stress. This drug also inhibits neurohormonal markers such as urotensin, which leads to increased blood pressure and cardiac hypertrophy. Nimbinic acid also has diagnostic qualities, with infarct size being quantified by immunohistochemistry and markers such as protein kinase C-βII, myoglobin, troponin I, or creatine kinase being measured by ELISA or Western blotting techniques.
