2-Nitro-4-thiocyanato aniline is a mesomeric compound that reacts with hydrochloric acid to form a hydroxide solution. It can be used in the production of thiocyanates, which are compounds that are introduced into organic substances for the purpose of synthesizing other compounds. 2-Nitro-4-thiocyanato aniline is advantageous because it does not react with water or oxygen under normal conditions and does not form an insoluble precipitate when mixed with sodium sulfide. 2-Nitro-4-thiocyanato aniline is also nonhazardous to humans, animals, and plants.
