• Beschreibung: Mianserin is a potent, reversible, and non-competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. It has been shown to significantly inhibit neuronal function and locomotor activity in rats. Mianserin hydrochloride also blocks uptake of 5-HT into synaptosomes and increases the release of 5-HT from rat brain slices. In addition, mianserin has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity in a sample preparation technique using carbamazepine as a substrate for the enzyme cytochrome P450. Mianserin is used for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy and congestive heart failure. Symptoms include dry mouth, dizziness, visual disturbances, headache, constipation, nausea, drowsiness and fatigue. Receptor binding studies have demonstrated that mianserin binds with high affinity to both 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors.
