• Beschreibung: o-Nitrocinnamaldehyde is an aldehyde that belongs to the group of β-unsaturated aldehydes. It has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo. o-Nitrocinnamaldehyde inhibits xanthine oxidase by preventing the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid. This prevents the formation of superoxide radicals, which are known carcinogens. The compound also inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase, which prevents the oxidation of nitro compounds that have been generated by nitrosation reactions. These reactions are catalyzed by nitric oxide synthases (NOS) and convert nitrate into nitrite and then into reactive nitrogen species such as peroxynitrites. o-Nitrocinnamaldehyde also inhibits uv absorption, which may be due to its ability to form supramolecular aggregates with other organic molecules or metal ions.
