1-Naphylacetonitrile (1NA) is an organic solvent that has a hydroxy group. It is used in the manufacture of nitrocellulose, lacquers, and dyes. 1NA can be dissolved in water but is not soluble in hydrochloric acid or ethylene diamine. It has a high water permeability and is stable at high temperatures. 1NA exhibits a typical NMR spectrum with peaks at δ = 0.8 (protonated amide), 3.2 (aromatic protons), 3.7 (aromatic protons), 4.2 (hydroxyl proton), 7.6-8.0 ppm (aromatic protons). The solubility of 1NA increases with increasing temperature, and it is soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons such as hexane and heptane at room temperature, but not in fatty acids or ammonium nitrate solutions.br>br>The chemical
