2-Nitro-5-(trifluoromethyl)aniline is a synthetic molecule with structural activity. It is a bioisostere of the antimalarial drug albendazole, and has been shown to have antimalarial activity against plasmodium falciparum in vitro. The drug also shows antiprotozoal properties against giardia, vaginalis, and trichomonas. 2-Nitro-5-(trifluoromethyl)aniline is not active on plasmodium species. This drug may be used as an alternative to metronidazole or trichomonas vaginalis for the treatment of trichomoniasis.
