4-(4-Nitrophenoxy)phenol is a neutralizing agent that is used for the production of chiral pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to be effective against cancer cells and also has anti-inflammatory properties. 4-(4-Nitrophenoxy)phenol can be synthesized by a two-step process, which begins with the nitration of phenol followed by hydrolysis of the nitro group. The resulting product is a white crystalline solid that can be further purified by recrystallization or sublimation. This compound is soluble in water, ethanol, and ether but not in chloroform or hexane.
