Beschreibung

6-Nitrocoumarin is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of xanthine oxidase. 6-Nitrocoumarin inhibits the activity of xanthine oxidase by binding to the heme group and blocking the access of oxygen to the active site, thereby preventing conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine. 6-Nitrocoumarin also has been shown to inhibit metal carbonyls such as mercury chloride, which may be due to its ability to bind with mercury ions. The optical properties of 6-nitrocoumarin are dependent on solvent polarity and temperature.
