5-(4-Nitrophenyl)isoxazole-3-carboxylic acid is a synthetic, organic solvent that has been used in the synthesis of hydroxybenzoic acid and piperazine. 5-(4-Nitrophenyl)isoxazole-3-carboxylic acid can be prepared by reacting the orthophosphoric acid with benzoic anhydride in an organic solvent such as chloroform. 5-(4-Nitrophenyl)isoxazole-3-carboxylic acid is a white, crystalline solid that melts at 125 °C. It has been shown to be resistant to radiation, but not to aliphatic hydrocarbons.
