Notoginsenoside Fc is a ginseng saponin, belonging to the group of triterpenoids. It has been shown to inhibit autophagy in animal and human cells. The effect of Notoginsenoside Fc on locomotor activity was investigated in rats using an open-field test. It decreased the time spent in the center of the field, as well as the number of crossings and rearing events. Notoginsenoside Fc also inhibited matrix metalloproteinase activity by binding to extracellular matrix proteins, leading to reduced inflammation and redness. Chemical stability tests have shown that Notoginsenoside Fc is stable under acidic conditions, but not when exposed to light or oxygen.
