4-NITROSTYRENE is a novel organic nitro compound that can be synthesized by the cycloaddition of two molecules of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde. It has been shown to have high reactivity and is useful in vitro experiments, kinetic studies, and asymmetric synthesis. In vitro assays show that 4-NITROSTYRENE has a good affinity for hematopoietic cells. This compound also shows anti-oxidative properties and can be used for the treatment of radiata trees, which are often damaged by oxidative injury during growth. The reaction mechanism of 4-NITROSTYRENE is not yet known but it may involve hydrogen bonding with the epoxide moiety.
