This active form inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding with ns3 protease in bacterial cells. Nonacosane also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines and growth factors-β1 (GF-β1) in tissue culture cells. Nonacosane is synthesized from taraxasterol acetate through an asymmetric synthesis reaction with sodium ethoxide.
