2,2'-Oxybis(nitrobenzene) is a phase-transfer catalyst that is used in the chromatographic method of separation. It has been found to be an excellent phase transfer catalyst for the separation of chlorides and organic compounds. 2,2'-Oxybis(nitrobenzene) has also been shown to be effective in controlling the rate of transport in multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The membrane system that is constructed from these tubes can be used for pharmaceutical preparations and other industrial applications. 2,2'-Oxybis(nitrobenzene) is often used as a reagent for analytical chemistry due to its acidic properties and chemical interactions with diazepam.
