• Beschreibung: Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that inhibits gastric acid secretion by binding to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in the secretory canaliculi of the parietal cells. Omeprazole has been shown to have a protective effect in animal models against infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, and also protects against ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Omeprazole is used as an adjunct treatment for patients with non-infectious gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or active duodenal ulcers. It has also been used for the prevention of stress-related mucosal damage in critically ill patients, although it is not approved for this use. Omeprazole can be administered orally or by injection.
