Beschreibung

2-Octanol is a chiral organic molecule that can be used in the synthesis of a variety of different molecules. It has hydroxyl groups on either side of the octane ring, which have a high reactivity with other molecules. 2-Octanol forms hydrogen bonds with anhydrous sodium and fatty acid, as well as having caproic acid and malonic acid react to form phosphorus pentoxide. The reaction mechanism for 2-octanol is shown below:

2-Octanol reacts with hydroxyl ions to form water and 2-octanone.
