Beschreibung

(S)-5-Oxo-2-tetrahydrofurancarboxylic acid is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It inhibits the production of glutamate, which is an important precursor for atp synthesis in the mitochondria. (S)-5-Oxo-2-tetrahydrofurancarboxylic acid also promotes cell apoptosis by inhibiting mitochondrial pathways and causes DNA damage. This drug can be used as an alternative to existing cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, which are less effective in patients with a mutated p53 gene. The drug has been shown to cause wild type cells to undergo apoptosis, but not mutant cells.
